Vestibular Therapy

Description of Our Service

Vestibular Therapy is a specialized rehabilitation program focused on treating balance issues, dizziness, and vertigo. The vestibular system, located in the inner ear, plays a crucial role in orienting the body in space. When this system is damaged or disrupted, it sends incorrect signals to the brain, causing uncomfortable sensations of unsteadiness that deeply impact your daily life and freedom of movement.
At our clinic, we conduct a detailed clinical assessment to identify the exact cause of your dizziness. Through specific exercises tailored to you—which include eye, head, and body movements—our therapists aim to "re-educate" the central nervous system to compensate for inner ear deficits. This process helps patients regain their lost balance and return to their normal activities with complete confidence.

Benefits

Loss of balance and constant dizziness can be distressing and limit your independence. Vestibular therapy offers a safe, non-invasive solution that often yields rapid results, providing you with:

FAQ

Balance issues can be confusing, which is why we are here to provide clarity. Below are the answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding the vestibular rehabilitation process.
BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) is the most common cause of vertigo, triggered by changes in head position. It is caused by the displacement of tiny "crystals" in the inner ear. In the vast majority of cases, our physiotherapists can successfully treat this in just 1 to 3 sessions using specific maneuvers (such as the Epley Maneuver) to guide the crystals back to their proper place.
Since the treatment involves movements that stimulate your balance system, it is possible to slightly provoke dizziness during the session. However, this is always done in a controlled and safe environment. This provocation is necessary to "train" your brain, and the discomfort usually passes very quickly after the exercise is completed.
This depends entirely on your medical diagnosis. If it is a simple case of BPPV, the problem can be resolved in a matter of days. For more complex or chronic balance disorders, a progressive exercise program lasting from a few weeks to several months may be required to achieve full brain compensation.
Vestibular exercises are not strength or fitness exercises, so they are not physically exhausting. They typically involve focusing your gaze on a specific point while moving your head (for visual stability), balance-improving exercises while standing on different surfaces (like soft cushions), and specific movements to habituate you to position changes.
For your initial assessment, especially if you suffer from acute vertigo or severe dizziness, we strongly recommend that you be accompanied by a family member or friend who can drive you. The treatment or balance tests can leave you momentarily dizzy, so your safety is our top priority.
You should not stop any medication without first consulting your prescribing doctor. However, it is important to know that some anti-dizziness medications can mask symptoms and, in some cases, slow down the vestibular rehabilitation process. During your visit, we will discuss the best plan in coordination with your doctor.
